Spring/Summer 2020 Trends

Fashion has always been a passion of mine. It gives me an accessible outlet to express my creativity and also an excuse to want beautiful things. However, it can be daunting to keep up with trends and most of the time, some of these trendy pieces are not exactly in the average person's price range or comfort zone to wear them out. Hence, I have broken down 8 of the Spring/Summer 2020 men's fashion trends that I would be rocking this summer, since we are wayyy past spring now. But hey, fashion is universal and transcends gender and age, so anyone can take some inspiration!

1.PINK

Starting off bold, pink is no longer just for Wednesdays nor stereotypically a feminine colour. Guys can rock pink too. Lighter pinks are more wearable and would be a good starting point to don the colour as it would not be as jarring compared to a bubblegum pink, for instance. Pair it with a bolder/darker colour, like navy, black, grey, or green for an interesting pair, to distract from the pink, if you feeling shy.

2. TONAL

Being monochromatic, in the sense of wearing different shades of the same colour, is growing in popularity on the runways for spring/summer. You have the entire spectrum of colour to experiment with, from black and greys, beiges and creams (my personal favourite) to even bright yellow if you want to. It gives a chic and sophisticated look to any outfit, especially paired with a tailored jacket or trousers.

3. STREETWEAR

Fashion is not just about the designer brands and dressing to the nines all the time. Influence from alternative culture is just as impactful on fashion trends. Grunge streetwear which are comfortable and equally stylish may be just the trend you need. So, grab your Chucks, bucket hat and ripped jeans for an effortless summer look.

4. EARTHY TONES

Think forest green, tan, beige, white, mustard and maroon. Classically fall colours, it is no longer the case that a certain colour palette is only reserved for a specific season. Bright neons were popular for last fall/winter, so the tables have turned. Just go for lighter fabrics than your traditional winter sweaters and jackets.

5. CO-ORD

Matching prints, head to toe, is definitely a fun, bold outfit for any summer holiday, especially if they are a tropical print. Stray away from Hawaiian prints as they may be too much, but look for more muted colours, stripes or other patterns in a matching set. You can be less matchy-matchy by layering it with a plain tee, though I think either go big or go home but that is just my personal opinion.

6. STRIPES

As you can see from a couple of the outfits on this post, I love me some stripes. Vertical stripes help you to look taller and who does not want that? Also, if you need to go formal, why not try a pinstripe suit instead. Stripes are easy to incorporate into your wardrobe or most probably, you already have it. So bust it out this summer.

7. LINEN

Linen is a summer staple. It is a lightweight and breathable fabric, making it a great summer outfit, both as a shirt or as bottoms. A linen button-up shirt with a mandarin collar is a great layering piece. It is also a versatile piece you can dress up for a garden party or dress down for a lazy afternoon. I jazzed up my linen shirt with some striped trousers (checking off another S/S trend) and a hat for a dressier look.

8. CUBAN SHIRT

Last, but not the least, is the classic cuban shirt, or also known as the resort shirt as it is the perfect, chic outfit for any resort getaway. The cuban shirt comes in an array of colours and prints, so there is definitely one that would tickle your fancy. Also, it works for both day and night. Leave your shirt hanging out for a carefree look, or tuck it in into trousers for a smart casual look.

And those are my picks of the Spring/Summer 2020 men's fashion trends! Personally, these styles are easily achievable and cover all your summer wardrobe needs from casual to formal. Not only that, you can easily style your outfits to tick off more than just one trend, as you can see in most of my outfits, hence you can easily kill two birds with one stone.
